A LONG-RUNNING campaign to prevent an access road being opened up in a quiet Rhyl street appears to have come to a successful end, an MP has said.

Anwyl Developers has submitted a planning application to Denbighshire Council to install bollards at the end of Rhodfa Maen Gwyn which should ensure the road does not become an access point for a proposed new development.

Fears had been raised than access road from Rhodfa Maen Gwyn into a housing development could have been built which could have meant hundreds of additional vehicles travelling along the road each day.

This was opposed by residents and local politicians including Chris Ruane MP for Vale of Clwyd and county councillor Brian Blakeley

Mr Ruane said Anwyl has now changed its plans.

He said: "I’m sure all those who live in that area will be pleased about the change. There were concerns about the possibility of an additional huge numbers of cars travelling down that stretch of road and thankfully this has now been resolved and I would like to congratulate all those who campaigned so well on this issue and thank Anwyl for listening to the concerns of residents and councillors.”

Cllr Blakeley added: “This was first suggested in 2003 and so, working with the late councillor Glyn Pickering, we raised awareness of the plans and campaigned against them.

“Local residents will be delighted that the plans have now been changed. On a related note I am working with councillors Bill Tasker and Win Mullen-James, Denbighshire Council and Anwyl on the upgrade of Pen Y Maes Avenue and Trellewelyn Road into a safer route for school.”
