A NORTH Wales health boss has stepped down  after “mutual agreement” with the health board.

Former Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board chief executive Mary Burrows left her post this week after announcing her departure in June last year.

A healthboard spokesperson said: "Mrs Burrows has stepped down from the health board by mutual agreement.

"Work has commenced on the recruitment to the post of chief executive, which will be a key appointment for the board in moving forward.

"In the interim, the post of chief executive is held by Geoff Lang on an acting basis."

Mary Burrows was one of three senior health board staff to quit their roles in the summer after a damning report, carried out by the Health Inspectorate Wales and the Wales Audit Office, revealed significant failings in the running of health services in North Wales.

She was joined by health board Vice-Chair Lyndon Miles and chairman Merfyn Jones after the report identified 24 aspects of health services where urgent work was needed, including financial issues and concerns over the spread of the C Difficile infection.
