THIS afternoon's high tide passed without any serious breaches of sea defences, council officials have said.

Flood warnings had been issued for parts of Rhyl, Aberegele, Towyn and Kinmel Bay due to high ties and strong winds.

A spokesman for Denbighshire Council, said: "Friday afternoon's high tide has passed without any serious breaching of defences but we are keeping a cautious eye on the next tides as per the advice from Natural Resources Wales.

"We are expecting them to be lower than the one earlier today though.

"We would still advise people to keep an eye on the weather forecasts for the coming days because there is still some unsettled weather to come - it looks as though Sunday is being mentioned with regard to this and we will have staff on stand by as and when necessary."

A Conwy County Council spokesman said: "At present there are no reports of properties affected by flooding.

"Council teams were out at key hotspots and the sea got very close to overtopping defences in a number of locations including Llanfairfechan, Deganwy and  Kinmel Bay.

"The tide is now receding and council teams will be deployed to start assessing damage."

The next high tides along the North Wales coast are expected to be just after 12am on Saturday morning.
