CAROL singers and pantomime characters brought festive cheer to Prestatyn during the town’s Christmas Light switch on.

Hundreds of crowds descended to Ty Nant Council offices, on Nant road, to see the Mayor light up the town yesterday.

The event, organised by Prestatyn’s Town Council, featured young singers from primary schools and the cast of Aladdin, that will be running at the Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl from next Friday.

Prestatyn Mayor, Cllr David Turner, said: “It went very well. It was a very good evening - it certainly put me in the festive spirit. There was a lot of smiles and lot of photos taken.

“There was hundreds of people and the choirs, from four primary schools, sang beautifully. They sang Carols such as the 12 days of Christmas and Away in a manger.

“I enjoyed being involved in the countdown. There was a really good atmosphere and it was not too cold for November. We had some beef burgers, there was games, mince pies and chocolates.

“We even welcomed the real father Christmas to town.”

Father Christmas will arrive officially, with his two real reindeers, on Saturday. Festive fun will be centered around the highstreet between 12-4.

From Saturday, Santa’s grotto, will be open every Thursday and Friday between 3.30pm until 6.30pm and every Saturday from 10am until 4pm leading up to Christmas.
