RHYL’S Belle Vue ground is to be renamed The Corbett Sports Stadium in the biggest sponsorship deal of the club’s history.
The bookmakers, which opened its first shop in Rhyl, has been a sponsor for the club since 1947 and also the main sponsor the Welsh Premier League.
In a deal thought to to be well into five figures, the club will be losing a name which has served them well for more than a century.
Mike Jones, Rhyl FC managing director, said: “We've been working on this for the last three of four years, so we're over the moon.
“It's great that they've invested money in Welsh football, and I think Welsh football owes them a lot of respect for investing in our league. Now, they’re adding more sponsorship to their hometown team."
The deal, which will last three seasons, marks the end of an era for the stadium, Belle Vue, which has been home to the club since 1892, and has become a name revered throughout Welsh and English football.
However, the Lilywhites' MD insists the deal will help stabilise the club's finances and contribute toward the "massive” rent and running costs of the stadium.
Jones added: “Everything we do is right for Rhyl FC, and it puts us in a stronger position to get to where we want to be.
