Conwy decides on Council Tax rise

HOUSEHOLDS in Conwy county will see a rise in their Council Tax bills, after members meet to discuss the authority's budget.

At a meeting of the full Council yesterday (Thursday), members supported the budget for the 2013/14 financial year, and agreed to a 3.88 per cent rise in Council Tax.

The Council Tax for Band D properties - the base on which the Council Tax for properties in all other bands is calculated - will rise by £34.32 to £918.93 per year.

Cllr Dave Cowans, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources,  said: "To prepare this budget for 2013/14, Conwy Members and Officers have identified £5.1m in savings through efficiencies, with no reduction in the level of front line services provided."

    seeing the tax rise astounds me, the council has just paid out 125k because of a fraudster with the court costs to follow. We as tax payers will have to pay the bill. Hopefully the full story will come out at the audit meeting march 14th at 5pm. Why was the council so quick to pay back the money ?? and more importantly where did the money come from to pay it ?
