Take three for film festival in Prestatyn

THE third Scala Youth Film Festival is going international after receiving interest from 15 European countries who want to take part.

The Scala Youth Film Festival will take place at the cinema on Friday, March 22.

They worked in partnership with Europe Direct in Llangollen and they have received interest from 15 other European Countries who would like to take part in the festival.

A new category has been added called Foreign Language films and this year the festival is also including a category for Welsh Language films and will be awarding a prize for the best overall film.

Festival artistic director Kevin Roberts said: “We are delighted to be expanding the festival categories this year and provide the opportunity for young people from all over Europe to come together and watch each others films.”

Over the past year local young people have been attending weekly film surgeries at the Scala in preparation for the festival, and will have a chance to showcase their work to an audience.

The people at the Scala have expressed their gratitude towards Prestatyn Town Council for all their support and their help towards funding film workshops and also sponsoring the community category part of the competition.

Rhiannon Hughes Chair of Prestatyn Youth Arts Festival said: “The Prestatyn Youth Arts Festival is delighted to support the development of the Youth Film Festival at the Scala cinema and to provide a programme of activities linked to film for the young people in the town.”

All students aged 11-16 years of age are welcome to apply and the closing date for applications is Friday, February 22.
