PANTO time is here again, and the stars of Venue Cymru’s latest festive extravaganza are bringing the fun and adventure of Peter Pan to town.

Blue Peter presenter Barney Harwood is delighting audiences in the all-action production of  classic children’s tale until December 30, and the Lancashire lad is raring to go.

He said: “My first impression is one word - home. I was brought up in Blackpool so being by the seaside and that smell of chips makes you feel at home right away.

The production will be Barney’s fourth run as Peter Pan, and the role is clearly close to the BAFTA winner’s heart.

He said: “It’s a brilliant role to play - not only to do I  get to fly and have your own fairy, but it’s just a magical story.

“You get a very different reaction from the audience, especially children, who love magic.

“I think when the audience walk out believing in fairies, it’s a nice thing to be able to do - especially in this world of X Factor, Youtube and the red button and things being given away a bit too much.”

Proceeds from Peter Pan will go to Great Ormond Street Hospital, show uses Skype to beam over a performance this afternoon (Thursday, December 13) to spread some festive joy to its young patients.

Barney is joined by Michael Howe as Captain Hook, the lovely Isobel Hathaway as Tinkerbell and the ever popular John Evans, who returns to Venue Cymru as Smee.
The genial presenter also relished the chance to work with a live audience.

He said:”When you’re in a theatre, you see every individual smiling face, and the great thing about indiviual character, especially children, is that they’re honest and pure and evertthing you get from them is genuine.”

Tickets are £20, £18, £15. To book, contact the Venue Cymru box office on 01492 872 000, or visit www.venuecymru.co.uk.
