AN INFERNO has engulfed a terrace of houses in Builth Wells with flames towering high over the roofs of the properties.

Four terrace houses on Wye View Terrace were seriously damaged after the blaze tore through them at around 10.30pm on Wednesday night.

A Mid and West Wales Fire Service spokesman said that appliances were sent from Llanwrtyd Wells and Builth Wells, as well as a water bowser from Builth Wells and an ariel ladder from Llandrindod Wells.

He also confirmed that breathing apparatus was used, however fortunately there were no casualties.

Houses were evacuated as firefighters tackled the blaze.

The blaze had been dealt with by 1.30am the following morning.

Fire service investigators will return to the site later on today to find out what caused the blaze.
