Woman charged with murder remanded in custody

A 42-year-old woman appeared in court toady charged with four counts of murder after a blaze in which a woman and three young children died.


Melanie Jane Smith, of Mae y Groes, was remanded in custody by Prestatyn magistrates to appear before Mold crown court on Wednesday.
 

Smith, was also accused of arson with intent to endanger life and threats to commit criminal damage by arson, “denies absolutely” being responsible for the blaze, according to defence solictor Chris Dawson.
 

There were insults from the packed public gallery as Smith was led from the dock.
