A LOVING daughter is to pay tribute to her father who died two weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.
Suzanna Simpson, aged 23, is taking part in the Great Birmingham Run half marathon in memory of David Gordon Jones, aged 78, who died from pancreatic cancer.
"Everyone who knew dad knew what an amazing, kind-hearted and happy person he was," said Suzanna, of Marine Road, Prestatyn.
"He always had a ready smile. That smile will be missed every single second of every day."
Manchester United fan Mr Jones, was a former driving instructor and farmer and was well known in Prestatyn.
He passed away in July at St Kentigern Hospice in St Asaph.
Former Prestatyn High pupil Suzanna will now take on the 13-mile challenge in October to raise funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund UK with boyfriend Andy Baker, aged 30, also from Prestatyn.
She said: "I'm doing two to three days training at the moment, running to Rhyl and back. It is very hard fitting in the time and I'm going to up the training near the time.
"It is the inspiration of what I am doing that is keeping me going."
Suzanna, who graduated in business from Bangor University, currently works as a supervisor at the Beaches Hotel, Prestatyn.
She said: "Dad has always been my idol in life and always will be. He was ill for months and the doctors were unable to diagnose him, it was only after I took him to the accident and emergency that two weeks later they had found out he had pancreatic cancer which had spread to his liver and was incurable and untreatable."
She added: "There is no early detection test and treatment is limited. Because symptoms are initially vague and generally don't appear until the disease is well advanced and too late. The average survival time after diagnosis is six months, my father didn't even reach two weeks.
"They need to find a cure and way to prevent people from dying due to such a horrible cancer."
