A CHARITY champion is looking for volunteers to help raise money on a 100 mile fundraiser for Llysfaen youngster Kyle Weaver.
Ray Herbert, of Old Colwyn children’s charity Happy Faces, is looking for fellow kind-hearted fundraisers to sign up to his relay race and raise £1,000.
Participants will each run the five mile distance from Rhos on Sea’s tourist information centre to the rainbow bridge and back, setting off at half-hour intervals on Sunday, November 11.
Ray hopes to sign up at least 20 people for the charity event, covering a total of 100 miles.
He said: “If we can get up to 20 people signed up, that would be a magnificent effort. If each person can raise £50, that’ll give £1,000.”
“I had some people say they didn’t want to finish last, so this way it’s all about doing your bit. We’ve got a couple of really good runners taking part who might pass by, but they’ll just say “see you in a minute” - the time doesn’t matter.
“They can walk it or jog it, whatever they want, so long as they do the five miles and hold their heads up to collect the sponsorship.
The event will help raise money to fund a life-changing operation to help two year old Kyle, who suffers from spastic diplegia cerebral palsy, walk and stand without the assistance or a K-frame.
The charity race will be followed by a fundraising show on November 24, and Ray said that Conwy businesses had also done their bit by agreeing to collect donations for Kyle.
“We’ve got 500 collecting cans and laminated posters made up, which we’ve given to shops and businesses who have been very supportive.
People can just pop in and ask to donate a couple of quid.
“It’s great to see so many people supporting a local lad.”
