PUPILS in Powys have again achieved excellent A-level results.

Teachers are beaming with pride after A-level pupils in Montgomeryshire once again achieved top marks – with many of them gaining the coveted A* grade.

Headteachers from Welshpool, Newtown, Llanidloes, Llanfyllin, Llanfair Caereinion, Bishops Castle and Machynlleth have also praised the hard work of their staff and the support given to pupils by their parents.

Sixth form pupils at Newtown High School have again achieved success.
Angela Francis, assistant headteacher, said: “We are very proud of our students who achieved an amazing 99 per cent pass rate this year. They all passed the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate.
“Our extended curriculum has proved to be a success, with students attaining the highest Distinction Star grade in both BTEC fashion and clothing and BTEC music technology. Our talented linguists also benefited from additional provision, with successful completion of Spanish, Portuguese and Turkish A-levels in addition to French.
“As in previous years, many of our students attained top grades.

Pupils at  Welshpool High School achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in their A-levels and BTEC.
Headteacher Jim Toal said: “This year’s results are very strong and reflect the hard work of our students and the dedication of their teachers.
“There was a 100 per cent pass rate for those students sitting two or more A-levels or equivalent and from those almost 80 per cent passed with grades A* - C.”

Pupils at Llanidloes High School are celebrating a 100 per cent success rate, with a staggering 38 per cent of pupils getting either an A* or A grade.
85 per cent of pupils achieved grades A to C.
Headteacher Darren Davies said: “These are a stunning set of results from a year group that has made a wonderful contribution to the success of the school over the past seven years.
“We are delighted for them and wish them all the success that they thoroughly deserve. They have all secured their university places and we are very proud of every single student’s achievements. They are all excellent role models for the rest of the school’s learners.”

Pupils from Llanfyllin High School are once again celebrating excellent A-level results.
Headteacher Carl Mincher said: “Our warmest congratulations go out to all our students who have done so well.”
At Llanfyllin High School 89.1 per cent of entries attained the top A* to C grades, while 66 per cent of grades were at A* to B grade.
Mr Mincher added: “These results reflect the high expectation and aspirations of both staff and students at Llanfyllin High School and has resulted in many notable individual achievements. For example, 16 students this year achieved straight A*/A grades. Among these 33 of the coveted A* grades were secured this year.
“These top class results are a rich reward in themselves, the vast majority of our students have also earned the reward of good university places and some high quality apprenticeships.
“Our students have worked very hard for their results and deserve full credit for such high achievements. Thanks must also go to the hard work and commitment of our staff and of course the support and encouragement of parents. They are all part of the success and will all be celebrating with students today.”

All students at Llanfair Caereinion High School achieved success at A-level, with a 100 per cent overall pass rate and an 82 per cent pass rate at A* to C grade.
Students also worked hard to successfully gain The Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification, which enhanced their qualifications and contributed towards their university entrance requirements.
Headteacher David Evans said: “The results are a testimony to the hard work, dedication and commitment of our staff and students and are a just reward for their efforts. We are also indebted to all our parents for their continued support. Congratulations to everyone and best wishes for the future.”

Ysgol Bro Ddyfi, Machynlleth, is once again celebrating very good results at A-level, with an overall pass rate of 99 per cent, 39 per cent of which are A*-B grades and 82 per cent of which are grades in the A*- C range.
Students at Ysgol Bro Ddyfi were successfully entered for the Welsh Baccalaureate qualification. The qualification has enabled the students to develop independent learning skills and has also provided opportunities for co-operation with local community groups and businesses.
A delighted headteacher, Dafydd Jones, was keen to praise all the hard work that had gone into preparing for these examinations over the past two years by the staff and the students.
Mr Jones said: “I congratulate the students on their excellent achievements. This is a very satisfying set of results and clearly represents the tremendous effort and commitment put in by our students and staff over these past two years.
“I would like to wish all the students all the very best as they move on to university or into employment. I look forward very much to hearing about their continued success in the future.”

Bishops Castle Community College has seen its best A-level results in three years.
98 percent of students passed their exams and the number of those achieving the very highest grades (A* and A grades) is up five fold on last year.
Headteacher Mr Doust said: “We are absolutely delighted with the A-level results this year. The boys put in a particularly strong performance, taking all top five slots. These are the best results we have seen in the past three years at A-level and are a real credit to both staff and students at the college. The community college continues to move in the right direction and we look forward to building on our achievements in the future. It is genuinely an exciting time to be involved with the college.”
Next year, the college will be delivering its A-level programme in collaboration with Ludlow College, in a move that will ensure access to a greater variety of courses and qualifications.
