THE SAINTS came unstuck against in-form Mochdre on Saturday, losing out by 33 runs in a low-scoring return to action.
St Asaph made an encouraging start after opting to bowl first, claiming the wicket of Mochdre’s big-hitting Will Evans early on as the visitors struggled. Mochdre held firm though, and were eventually bowled out in the 55th over for 140.
David North was the top wicket taker with four for 32 with Matt Hulse taking three for 30. Jason Foulkes and Andrew Bellis also claimed a wicket each as Mochdre finished on 140.
The Saints also found runs hard to come by, with opener Mathew Ryan top scoring on 24, finishing just ahead of Will Ryan on 22.
Andrew Bellis added 19 useful runs late on, and despite late resistance from Foulkes and Hulse, St Asaph were too far behind to take the points, eventually being bowled out in the 52nd over for 103.
Despite losing, St Asaph stay sixth in the table ahead of next week’s clash with Brymbo.
The Saints’ seconds found their match rained off for a third successive weekend.
