TWO Rhyl barmaids will show support for troops in Afghanistan by sending them boxes full of home comforts.
Mother of two Rhian Harris, whose husband, Stewart has been in Afghanistan since March, and Hilary Wright, the aunt of Rhyl Marine Michael Taylor who was killed in action in 2010, both work in the Esplanade Social Club, and aim to send over the luxuries to help boost morale.
Mrs Harris, of Bryn Hedydd Road, said it is a constant worry for her while her husband is on tour but added it’s important to keep busy and show them all support.
“It is always a concern with Stuart out there, but you have just got to channel that elsewhere, like doing these boxes for the troops,” she said.
“It is extremely important that they know people back home are thinking of them.
“Hilary has been fantastic, and all of the regulars have been as brilliant as ever as well, bringing goods in for the boxes.”
Ms Wright, who also has a son in the forces, said it has been difficult for Mrs Harris since her husband left for Afghanistan with the Welsh Guards.
“It is really hard for her, so it is important to show her support as well,” she said.
“There are a lot of lads out there, and they need to know that we are all behind them back here.”
The club have raised more than £1,300 for Help for Heroes with events in the past, and locals have rallied together to contribute to help out their latest bid to support troops.
