PRESTATYN won’t be bringing home the Welsh Cup this year after crashing to a disappointing eight-wickets defeat in their third round match against North Wales League opponents Mochdre at Beach Close on Sunday.
At stake for the winners was a rare tilt at Premier Division club Colwyn Bay in the Section final at Rhos-on-Sea on July 1.
Prestatyn wickets fell cheaply. Harris departed for four, Danny Davies for a duck and Robbie Rimmington for four as the seasiders dipped to 48 for 4, leaving Ryan Westwell (38) and Danny Williams (32) to hold the slow-moving Prestatyn innings together.
Darren Hughes, going in at number six, added 16 but the unproductive hosts found themselves bowled out for only 114 in the 38th over of the 45 available.
Mochdre made light of the challenge and proceeded to coast home on 115 for 2 off 31 overs, Joe Chaplin (38) and veteran Gareth Davies (41 not out) putting on 88 for the second wicket.
