FORMER Sheffield United and Wales striker Ched Evans has lodged an appeal against his conviction for raping a 19-year-old woman in a hotel room.
Evans, 23, was jailed for five years at Caernarfon Crown Court after being found guilty of raping the woman at a hotel in Rhuddlan last May.
His legal team have said he maintains his innocence.
The Court of Appeal has now received papers for an application to appeal against conviction and sentence but no hearing dates have yet been set.
St Asaph born Evans, was released by Sheffield United along with 10 other players last week.
Port Vale defender Clayton McDonald, 23, who also admitted having sex with the victim, was found not guilty of the same charge.
