Washing machines are a key part of many people's homes. Unsurprisingly, when a machine becomes faulty, it can be quite distressing.

Many people are quick to get their faulty machine out and to replace it with the updated model in a matter of hours. Not only is this an expensive option but it is one with a number of negative implications for the environment. Such is the modern ethical dilemma with which we are confronted when our washing machine breaks down.

Although many people are likely to be aware of the costs of replacing a broken machine, they often spare little thought for how this might be avoided. The truth is that this situation can be avoided in many situations by considering a simple repair of the existing machine. Let's look at how this can help, and in what situation it is the best way forward.

Indesit washing machine problems need not be so expensive for their users or for the environment. To find out whether this needs to be the case, it is worth getting a professional diagnosis for your machine. It may well be the case that the fault is easily fixed, either by repairing an existing component or replacing it.

Understandably, the impact on both earth and wallet is inevitably less daunting once the cause of the fault is more precisely identified. Perhaps you have had to replace a washing machine in the past - if you had known that the replacement of a belt could have saved you the cost of a brand new washing machine, you would doubtless have acted differently.

Of course, washing machines cannot always be repaired so easily or cheaply. In some cases, it may actually be greener for you to replace the broken machine. If your machine is old and inefficient, it may be wise to have it replaced. In this scenario, it is essential to have the parts of your old machine recycled where possible. Whatever you do with your old machine, remember that it is never the best option to see your faulty washing machine taken to landfill.

Your Carbon Footprint

Another environmental factor to consider is the manufacture of a new machine. Although it may seem that the machine has been made independently of your need for it, thus its production does not filter into your carbon footprint, this is not the case. All manufacturers work on a supply and demand basis, therefore if you purchase a product, no matter what it is, you take responsibility for how it is made.

In today's world, people are taking more responsibility for their contribution to society's carbon footprint. This involves the acceptance of responsibility for the products they purchase, as well as the way that they act.

Needless to say, the impact on your carbon footprint of a new component is far less than that of an entire new machine. If you can avoid replacing the entire machine, it makes as much sense ecologically as it does financially.
