RUNNERS were left fuming, including some from Prestatyn Running Club, when a spectator changed a direction sign at the Village Bakery half-marathon in Wrexham.
A number of runners were disqualified after being sent down the wrong course, as direction arrows were turned in the wrong direction.
George Nicholls was among those who ran 11 miles rather than the 14 required, after crossing the line in sixth place in 1hr 10min 5sec.
Russ Cheetham, who took part despite suffering from a cold all week and battling through abdominal pain during the race, ran the correct course, finishing in 1hr 38min 9sec for 191st, and Gareth Harrison-Jones, in his first race for almost a year, was 222nd in 1hr 40min 41sec.
Shelley Ward finished 312th in 1hr 49min 5sec, while super-vet Roger Harrison-Jones was happy with his time of 1hr 52min 30sec for 336th place.
Former Prestatyn member Katie Parry (Leeds City), who won the North Wales Cross-Country Championship in Corwen in January, finished just outside the medals in the Welsh championship in Cardiff at the weekend.

Mark Mayers led the team home in 1hr 34min 42sec, Tom Bancroft ran 1hr 43min 55sec just seconds ahead of Andy Simpson, who finished in 1hr 43min 58sec.
Dave Edwards crossed the line in 1hr 44min 4sec with Peter Hardy completing the line up with a run of 2hr 1min 39sec.
Grahame Shone left the wintery weather behind to take part in the San Javier 10k on the Costa Blanca. Grahame ran 43min 58sec to win the V60 category and add to his haul of trophies from his racing in Spain.
