Rhyl face fixture backlog

RHYL face a fixture backlog battle in their promotion pursuit after suffering their fourth defeat of the season against Cefn Druids.

The Lilywhites sit sixth in the Huws Gray Alliance after a number of cancelled matches, but would go top of the league with wins in all four of their games in hand.

Despite losing out to Druids on Friday night, Rhyl remain in touch with the pack of clubs at the top of the table who have also dropped points in recent weeks, and manager Greg Strong said he remained confident that his side would not be hampered by a fixture list that features nine matches in the next four weeks.

“We’ve got a decent sized squad at the moment, and the lads are all hungry to play and are looking forward to these games,” he said.

“With all these games called off with the weather, we’ll be playing at a time when the pitches are hopefully improving. It’s a very competitive league with a lot of sides taking points off eachother. The one thing I will say is that if we win our games in hand, we’ll be top of the league.”

First up are in-form Conwy United, who continued an impressive run of results with a 3-1 win over Buckley Town on Friday, and Strong said he was looking forward to pitting his side against another of the league’s footballing connoisseurs on Friday night.

“We’ve seen Conwy have invested massively with their new owners, and it’s not rocket science that when you bring in quality players your results improve. I will say that they’re a footballing side, which is what we’re all here to see.”

Rhyl failed to make a breakthrough, and were punished as Druids went 2-0 up before Ryan Williams pulled one back from the spot
