Prestatyn Town are hoping for a bumper turnout for tonight’s (Wednesday) fundraising friendly with Wrexham at Bastion Gardens.
The match was set up to help pay an unexpected £5,000 maintenance bill for the Seasiders’ floodlights which needed urgent remedial work to keep them in line with the Welsh Premier League’s Domestic Licence criteria.
Failure to achieve the required standard would have meant Town could have faced possible expulsion from the WPL - a fate that befell Connah’s Quay two years ago.
Now, with the work completed, Prestatyn hope supporters will turn up in numbers tonight to help swell the coffers and raise a tidy sum towards the target figure.
The club’s Supporters Association have agreed to make a substantial donation to the fund and a bucket collection will be made on the night. The SA also plan a fundraising evening on March 3 all of which will help to meet the cost of the work.
Town are also set to give a run-out for part of the game to former Preston, Burnley and Bury keeper James Bolton who approached the club for a trial this week.
The 22-year-old Manchester-based shotstopper - who also has experience with Padiham of the North West Counties League - has been out of the game for a year with shin splints but has now had the all-clear from doctors.
On Saturday Town slipped to a 1-0 defeat at title-chasing Neath but were indebted to the heroics of keeper Jon Hill Dunt for a string of fine saves which kept the score down.
Brought back into the side in place of Dave Roberts, Hill Dunt made two superb saves from a Lee Trundle free-kick and a Luke Bowen header in the first half to keep his side in contention.
In the second period Hill-Dunt again proved the difference but he was finally beaten by former Prestatyn team-mate Kai Edwards who scored the game's only goal on 73 minutes.
To add to Town’s woes player-manager Neil Gibson may be ruled out for up to a month after pulling a hamstring towards the end of the first half.
