POLICE investigating an early morning assault on a train guard at Prestatyn train station have released CCTV images of a man they want to trace.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers were called to Prestatyn railway station on Thursday, 19 January after a guard on the 5.10am Cardiff Central to Holyhead Arriva Trains Wales service had been assaulted.
The guard suffered facial injuries after being pushed over onto the platform by a man.
The guard was taken to hospital by ambulance.
There was no trace of the man who assaulted the guard when police arrived at the railway station.
PC Neal Lindskog, said: “Officers have been making inquiries into the incident, including retrieving CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses.
“It appears that the train guard had stepped off the train to monitor passengers boarding and alighting and was assaulted by a male who was already on the platform but had not been a passenger on the train.
“This would appear to be a nasty, unprovoked assault on a member of railway staff who was simply carrying out his duties.
“BTP will not tolerate assaults of any kind towards railway staff and we will do everything possible to track down the offender and bring him to justice.
“But we need your help - if you know the identity of the man in these photographs, or his current whereabouts, please get in touch as we believe he will have information which can assist the investigation.”
Anyone who has information which could assist the investigation, is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
In all calls quote incident reference B5/WWA of 15/02/2012.
