PLANS to transform the appeal of Rhos harbour have been drawn up by Conwy Council planners.
The developments, known as the Rhos Point Project, would see the Rhos Bistro demolished and replaced with a two-storey building which would have space for a new restaurant.
Significant changes are also proposed to Rhos Park, which would feature a new paddling pool complex and playground, while the Rhos kiosks would be demolished.
Initial plans go before Conwy Council’s communities scrutiny cabinet on Thursday but already Cllr Roger Parry, who sits on the committee, is welcoming the demolition of the vacant Rhos Bistro building.
“As it is now, it’s deteriorating and it’s not to my mind a good advert for Rhos on Sea,” he said.
“I have spoken to a number of business people and residents and overall they like the plans.
“Rhos on Sea is unique and they really think the vision is a good idea.”
Planners had considered restoring the Bistro but concluded that “extensive refurbishment was not a viable option.”
“A new build development incorporating robust construction and iconic design forms the basis of the architectural proposal,” the report said.
As well as plans to demolish the Rhos Bistro, there are also proposals for better pedestrian access and enhancements to the beach area.
The suggestions will be presented to the Rhos community for consultation at a drop in event later this month, although the date and venue are still to be confirmed.
Cllr Merfyn Thomas said a positive vision was needed for the area to capitalise on its potential.
“We have got this vision and I feel very strongly about it,” he said.
“I have a passion for Rhos on Sea and can see phenomenal potential.”
