A YOUNG woman is preparing to skydive in memory of two of her friends.

Charlotte Bassett, of Rhuddlan, will take to the air in March in aid of Papyrus, the suicide prevention charity, to honour two friends who took their own lives.

Charlotte, aged 18, a former Emrys ap Iwan pupil and student at Coleg Llandrillo in Rhos on sea, will join five friends on the charity bid.

She said: “When I was 14 in school, I lost a school friend, and I also lost a friend in work to suicide. In school, it brought the year group very close, we all leaned on each other as support.

“But when I was 18, it was a work friend, so we were a small group. We still felt closer but we didn’t know what to do. We felt isolated. Papyrus helped us when we lost our friends. You can speak to councillors which allows you to get your feelings off your chest.”

Charlotte’s friends, who set up an annual band night to raise funds for the charity, encouraged her to sign up for the skydive and she hopes to raise at least £500.

Charlotte said: “It feels good to help Papyrus. A lot of people haven’t heard of them before. Lots of people go through down patches and they need to know where to go to speak to people.

“You have to raise at least £400 and it costs £100 to pay for the jump, but I’m paying for that myself to give as much to the charity as possible.”

Charlotte said she wasn’t nervous of the 10,000 ft drop yet, as she had wanted to take part in a skydive for years.

She said: “I think it will be really good.”
