THE mother of missing Michael Murphy has revealed a man matching her son’s description was spotted the day after he disappeared.

The possible sighting was made on a train bound for Holyhead and only came to light this week.

Mr Murphy, of Mold, was last seen leaving the Convatec factory on Deeside Industrial Park on Wednesday, January 4.

Yesterday marked four-weeks since he went missing and his mum Ann said it had been a “difficult” day.

“It is hard just trying to get through the days,” she said.

“It is on my mind all through the night.”

Mr Murphy’s abandoned Volkswagen Polo was recovered by police from the Flintshire Bridge, which runs from Deeside Industrial Park to Flint across the River Dee.

Mrs Murphy, 57, said: “An art student at Glyndwr University saw a poster on Monday and said she saw him on the Holyhead train a day after he disappeared.

“It may not have been him, it is still a possibility, they have got to back it up.

“We used to holiday on Anglesey and it is also possible he could have gone to Ireland.”

The family is heading to Anglesey this weekend with 400 posters while friends in Dublin are also raising awareness of the search.

Last month police staged a reconstruction on the Flintshire Bridge.

Mrs Murphy said officers were keeping her updated on a weekly basis about the search.

She added there that no withdrawals had been made from Mr Murphy’s bank account.

“We are going to keep going with the campaign until we find Michael,” she said. “We do not know anything different yet so we are going to stay positive.”

A Facebook campaign has now reached 8,000 members, while the yellow ribbon campaign is also growing.

“It is a comfort people want to help,” said Mrs Murphy.

“We can’t believe that 8,000 people have joined. There are people who have given weeks of time. It is fantastic people can be so caring.

“There are a lot of people wearing ribbons and requesting ribbons, it means so much people are wearing them.”

A website for non-users of social networking websites has also been launched to widen the search net.
