A CROWD of thousands rocked to the sounds of Spandau Ballet and The Alarm in Prestatyn at the weekend.

Music fans from across the world travelled to Pontins to attend the 20th Gathering festival, which takes place in honour of rocker Mike Peters and his bandmates Dave Sharp, Eddie Macdonald and Nigel Twist.

“Our 20th anniversary Gathering attracted some 2000 fans from all over the globe to my hometown,” said Mike.

“The expectations were high but to help us celebrate we were joined by Steve Norman from Spandau Ballet and a host of lucky locals who managed to get the 100 tickets made available for those in North Wales.”

Other guests included Simon Fowler of Ocean Colour Scene and US singer/songwriter Joe Silva of The Threads.

Mike said: “We've already announced that tickets for next year are already on sale for 2013 and the fans have really taken to the event which is now coming into its fourth year at Pontins Prestatyn.

“Roll on the next twenty years of the Gathering I say, but now I have to get my head into gear to sing for Big Country on the Crossing tour which begins at Manchester Academy on Friday night...From 68 Guns to the Fields of Fire here I come!”

  • Tickets for the 21st Gathering go on sale on February 6, and fans can find out more by visiting www.thealarm.com.
