This is a road to ruin

A RESIDENT branded a decision to dig up a newly resurfaced road a “huge waste” of public money.

Lorraine Tander, who has lived on Sandy Lane in Prestatyn for 20 years, has spoken out about plans to tear up the street as part of current redevelopment work in the town.

She said: “There are huge works going on in the town. They’ve just recently started digging the surface across the road by the H bridge, laying in a new gas main. That would be okay, except they’re going to continue on down from the bus station to Sandy Lane - when earlier last year the council resurfaced the whole area.

“It’s only been about six months, if that. It’s where the cars are going to be running. It just doesn’t make any sense.”

Ms Tander said the original resurfacing, which was much needed, was a layer placed by a new technique that only took a matter of days, but questioned why the surface was to be ripped up again, as it could compromise the repairs.

She said: “If the Council knew this work was going to take place, It could have been done after. There’s going to be parking issues and it’s a waste of money doing it this way round.

“It doesn’t take too much of a brain to think if a road needs doing and check if it’s going to be done.”

Cllr George Green of the north west ward said he sympathised with the resident’s viewpoint, but that the actions were “driven by necessity”.

He said: “I can see from their point of view it might appear wasteful, but it’s part of the bigger picture. We are mindful of our residents.”
