PROMOTION hopefuls Rhyl came from behind to crush visitors Prescot 6-1in their first match of the new year and move into third position in the table.
Changing round 1-0 down after their earlier 2-1 away defeat, Rhyl completely changed tactics in the second half and their attacking formation paid dividends with a hat-trick from Christian Nicholson after a superb solo run from the halfway line by Casey Dunn to equalise had set Rhyl motoring.
Dunn added a second with Chris Hardy wrapping up Rhyl’s biggest win of the season. Now Rhyl will be chasing a double this Saturday when they visit Knutsford.
UNLUCKY Rhyl Ladies Hockey Club lost out in their first game of the year as difficult conditions contributed to a 4-0 defeat away to Newtown.
Despite playing on an icy pitch, Rhyl enjoyed the best of the opening exchanges, and returning keeper Tasha Frost made a series of great stops in goal as the defence held firm to go in all square at the break.
However, it all went wrong for Rhyl after the break as Newtown rattled in four goals.
