AN ANGLESEY farmer has been taken to hospital after impaling his leg on a tractor’s hay baling spike.

Bleddyn Hughes, aged 53, was airlifted to Ysbyty Gwynedd on Tuesday where doctors operated on him.

He was able to raise the alarm by calling 999 on his mobile at 11am, despite the horrific accident at his Bodedern farm.

Ambulance crews, as well as North Wales Police and the fire service attended the scene and made the decision to call in the Wales Air Ambulance crew after Mr Hughes had been lifted off the spike.

He is said to be in a stable condition.
