AMBITIOUS Rhuddlan Town stated their title intentions at the weekend, marking their application for promotion to the Welsh Alliance with a 9-0 thrashing of Rhyl Athletic.
League leaders Town, who sit top of the league with a 100% record, having netted 65 goals in eleven games, are one of four clubs to apply for a ground inspection, along with Meliden, Prestatyn Rovers and St Asaph.
Overrun Rhyl survived the first eight minutes before trailing to a Jamie Duffy opener and other goals flowed from Darren Cassidy (2), Duffy again, Scott Millington, Jack Williams, Dean Moss, Chris Evans and Jamie Hobson to open up a 9 points gap at the top.
Second-placed Saints suffered a set-back with their 4-3 defeat in a thriller at rivals Meliden, where Lee Beattie’s 85th minute strike tipped the verdict. Martin Halewood, Jon Grimley and Gareth Walsh pocketed Rhuddlan’s others as Adam Cassidy (2) and Kris Fearnley took St Asaph close.
Prestatyn Rovers also dropped a point in a 2-2 stalemate at Abergele Dragons as Danny Jones rescued Dragons with his 80th minute equaliser to add to Keiron Ellis’s only goal of the first half. In between Martin King and Jon Hargreaves (pen) fired Rovers ahead but Rhyl Hearts crashed 7-2 despite going in front at home to Bro Cernyw, Cai Mayers scoring four of them. Jay Seymour, Ritchie Parry and Jon Calland added the others as Mike Cameron and Jamie Kelly reduced Hearts deficit.
Andy Lee Denton and Danny Brown were Prestatyn Rovers scoring aces with two each in the 4-4 draw with Penmaenmawr Phoenix in the Reserves Combination Division but leaders Llandyrnog United fell to only their second defeat in a 3-1 blow at second-placed Flint Town United, Anthony Marshall having the last word with his 87th minute consolation goal.
Gareth Lloyd (2) and Ryan Jones steered Abergele Dragons to a place in the third round of the Normac Precision Presidents Cup with a 3-0 success at Aston Park Rangers while Denbigh Town fill third place in the Reserve Premier League after sinking lowly Llandudno Junction 4-0, courtesy of Niall McGuinness (2), Darren Nixon and Josh Taylor.
Kinmel Bay Sports failed to produce a goal in their game at Connah’s Quay Town but still came away with a point as the Deesiders’ couldn’t score either! The Bay drop to fifth place while Danny Roberts (2) and Simon Brown secured a 3-1 win for Llandyrnog United over visitors Nantlle Vale.
