A WEDDING in the West Indies is on the cards for one happy couple.
Claire Gordon and Jason Harris, of Rhyl, entered a Bahamas wedding competition on impulse, only to find out this week that they are one of 16 couples chosen for an island union.
Claire, 38, a benefits advisor and self-confessed competition addict, opted for a colourful Junkanoo dance ceremony on Nassau.
She said: “Jason and I met through a friend. We’ve been together two and a half years and we got engaged in August.
“I’m a competition fanatic. I enter loads. I saw the competition and I thought it was a bit different, and because it was a combination of a wedding and holiday it just seemed like the natural thing to do.
“It’s just bizarre that we’ve won. We’re really, really excited. It’s brilliant news.”
The soon-to-be Harrises will tie the knot on May 16 at 4pm (or 16:00 hours), at exactly the same time as the other couples; meaning 16 simultaneous weddings will take place on 16 different islands.
Jason, 39, a panel beater at Slaters in Mochdre, will be bringing along brother Steve and sister in law Helen as special guests.
He said: “We are most looking forward to the Junkanoo theme of the wedding - vibrant colours and lively music, and a traditional “rush out” to celebrate.
“It will make a unique wedding that we will remember for the rest of our lives together.”
Between them, Jason and Claire have five youngsters, Ashley, Lewis and Jemma Harris and Cameron and Alisha Gordon, who will join them at the island.
Claire joked: “It’s going to cost a fortune, but we can’t do it without them.”
The competition was run by the Bahamas Tourist Office to promote the string of tropical islands.
