Children wade through sewage in Welshpool

MAESYDRE Primary School pupils had to wade their way through raw sewage this morning (Tuesday) after a drain collapsed.

After a problem with excrement bubbling up through drains in Oldford Housing Estate earlier in the week, the problem worsened today, so much so there was inches of human waste lining the footpath that runs from Welshpool Police Station to Maesydre Primary School.

Severn Trent contractors eventually came out to resolve the situation, but not before hundreds of people had already navigated their way through a stinking stream of poo and used toilet paper.

Cllr Phil Pritchard said: “It is a disgrace, absolutely disgusting!

“The people from Severn Trent have been ignoring the problem for days and now hundreds of school children have had to walk through excrement on their way to school.

“Fair play to the teachers at Maesydre, they have been cleaning the children’s shoes, but it shouldn’t have come to this, it is appalling."

Cllr Ann Holloway, a governor at Maesydre Primary School, added: “It is dreadful that the kids have to walk through excrement.”
On Tuesday a spokesperson for Severn Trent said: “Severn Trent contractors, Enterprise, are currently at the scene in Welshpool dealing with reports of a sewage leak.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused to the local community.”
