A PENSIONER has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a number of young children.

Appearing yesterday in Chester Crown Court, Ronald Alan Edwards, 72, admitted eight charges of sexual assault against children.

At the time of the offences, all of the children were under the age of 13.

Edwards, of Liverpool Road, Buckley, denied a ninth charge of sexually assaulting a young boy between May 2005 and May 2008.

Following the admission of the other charges, Crown prosecutor Mark Connor agreed not to proceed on that charge.

The court heard all the assaults took place between May 2004 and May 2008.

Defending, John Philpotts, asked sentencing to be adjourned to allow reports to be prepared.

The Recorder of Chester, Judge Elgan Edwards, said a pre-sentence report was needed to determine the “wider implications” of the case and the danger posed by Edwards.

Edwards was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register and was bailed to re-appear before the court on Monday, February 20.
