A TEENAGER has been left traumatised after narrowly escaping a man she feared was chasing after her as she walked home from a youth club.
Fourteen-year-old Megan Gregory’s terrifying ordeal occurred in the Acton area at about 10pm on Wednesday as she made her way home to Caia Park with a young male friend after an evening at the club in Gresford.
The man who had been following them shouted to attract her attention after her male friend had gone his separate way, and then quickened his pace to catch up with her.
She ended up running to escape and dashed into a local pub where she was able to use the phone after dropping her mobile in the street in her haste to get away.
It comes just days after an alleged attempted abduction in Rhosnesni, revealed by the Leader yesterday.
Megan’s mum, Sarah Yates, 35, a care worker in Coedpoeth, said: “She thinks the man, who was about 45, was either bald or had a shaven head.
“The lad she was with then left to walk towards his nan’s and Megan walked on alone.
“Near the junction of Box Lane and Jeffreys Road she heard the man shouting ‘oi’ behind her.
“He then began running after her and she began to run as fast as she could. She tried to use her mobile phone but dropped it.”
Mrs Yates, who has five other children, added: “I dashed round there with my eldest daughter Amy and carried out a search but couldn’t see the man.
“We then called the police who turned up very quickly.
“She says the man who followed her was aged about 45 and was 5ft 8-9ins tall with a bald or shaven head. This has really shaken my daughter.
“She is normally an outgoing girl but she says she now doesn’t want to go walking anywhere on her own. I advise other parents to tell their children to go around in groups wherever possible. It’s so frustrating that kids can’t be kids any more.”
A North Wales Police spokesman said: “We got a call at 10.46pm on Wednesday reporting suspicious behaviour in the Jeffreys Road area of Wrexham, which we are investigating.”
Yesterday, the Leader revealed how Wrexham Council chiefs had warned schoolchildren to be on their guard following reports that a man had tried to abduct a young teenage boy in Bryn Estyn Lane last Friday afternoon.
Police say it is too early to say if there is a link between the two cases.
