Teen girl escapes from chasing man

A TEENAGER has been left traumatised after narrowly escaping a man she feared was chasing after her as she walked home from a youth club.

Fourteen-year-old Megan Gregory’s terrifying ordeal occurred in the Acton area at about 10pm on Wednesday as she made her way home to Caia Park with a young male friend after an evening at the club in Gresford.

The man who had been following them shouted to attract her attention after her male friend had gone his separate way, and then quickened his pace to catch up with her.

She ended up running to escape and dashed into a local pub where she was able to use the phone after dropping her mobile in the street in her haste to get away.

It comes just days after an alleged attempted abduction in Rhosnesni, revealed by the Leader yesterday.

Megan’s mum, Sarah Yates, 35, a care worker in Coedpoeth, said: “She thinks the man, who was about 45, was either bald or had a shaven head.

“The lad she was with then left to walk towards his nan’s and Megan walked on alone.

“Near the junction of Box Lane and Jeffreys Road she heard the man shouting ‘oi’ behind her.

“He then began running after her and she began to run as fast as she could. She tried to use her mobile phone but dropped it.”

Mrs Yates, who has five other children, added: “I dashed round there with my eldest daughter Amy and carried out a search but couldn’t see the man.

“We then called the police who turned up very quickly.

“She says the man who followed her was aged about 45 and was 5ft 8-9ins tall with a bald or shaven head. This has really shaken my daughter.

“She is normally an outgoing girl but she says she now doesn’t want to go walking anywhere on her own. I advise other parents to tell their children to go around in groups wherever possible. It’s so frustrating that kids can’t be kids any more.”

A North Wales Police spokesman said: “We got a call at 10.46pm on Wednesday reporting suspicious behaviour in the Jeffreys Road area of Wrexham, which we are investigating.”

Yesterday, the Leader revealed how Wrexham Council chiefs had warned schoolchildren to be on their guard following reports that a man had tried to abduct a young teenage boy in Bryn Estyn Lane last Friday afternoon.

Police say it is too early to say if there is a link between the two cases.

Parents should also be aware that a person using the name Justin Bieber is using MSN to talk to children...there is a warning out on Facebook about his activities....and on checking our daughters MSN page we found him on her account

14 is too young to be walking the streets at that time of night.

Not being funny but why was 14 year walking home at 10pm by herself form Gresford to the Caia park area is nearly 3 miles why weren't her parents picking her up?

@jonchar; do you know the full story? no. You only know what you've read. whereas i know the full story. #DontJudge.

I agree with the others on here.. far too late for a 14yr old to be out walking let alone that far from home... esp on a school night.... did she loose her phone?.. late? was she chased at all? attention seeking if you ask me.. sorry but we re all allowed an opinion

Why concentrate on the Girl....there are no buses to Caia from town after 10pm...schools are warning parents and kids about an attempted child abduction in daylight hours...seems as if the wrong doers are excused on the basis of our way of raising our own kids

a cahill i agree with you totally.. and with this knowledge you would think people would be extra careful... and not put themselves at risk unnecessarily... if a teenage boy walking home from school was attacked..well that says it all...i hope they catch this person quickly...

Missing the point completely!!! It shouldn't matter what time it happened, we can all judge etc but the fact is there could be someone very dangerous out there ! it could happen at 8am, 12pm or 10 at night it still doesn't make it right that someone is doing this . I don't think in court someone would be let off just because it happened when most kids are tucked up in bed .Children should never be approached by a stranger in a threatening way , EVER.

emmie... i agree with what you say too.. . my point being that sadly the streets are nt safe these days.... no matters what time of day its important to be vigilant and not take risks .. there are some evil people .. sad but true..

We have all been 14 or will be at some point. As you get older you see the sense in not deliberately putting yourself in danger. When the street lamps come on children should make their way home no matter what time it is. Yes, it can happen in broad daylight but there is more chance of somebody seeing it happening and getting help than in the dark.

Another comment has been removed, strange how this has started to happen again since a certain person has started posting once more on here.

  13. Posted by: JonJohn at 15:39 on 24 January 2012 Report

liberty1, why was my post commenting on your comment removed then? it would not have been in IMO's interest to remove my post as well, it could just as well be the leader that removed the comments, after all you two are like little children arguing in the playground.

  14. Posted by: JonJohn at 15:57 on 24 January 2012 Report

The thing is, several reports of attempted grabs by unknowns have been reported, the chances are by peado's. why else would someone try to grab a young girl/boy ? I think IMO had a point, but you just have a go, almost as if you two are married, if you cannot accept other peoples opinion, and cannot answer without giving insults, you are the one with the problem. for the good of the website, please stop, its boring.

JonJohn, hi and thank you. liberty1 always accuses me of removing posts when its probably him looking for attention... still. if anyone else had suggested peadophile activity, liberty1 would not have said a word. I dont remove posts unless they are abusive or derogatory... most of liberty1's comments are just that.... against anyone who refuses to contribute to his way of thinking... thats fact as can be seen in most of his posts. anyway thank you for seeing my point.

  16. Posted by: JonJohn at 20:06 on 28 January 2012 Report

I just do not understand why you two keep going at each other, if one insults the other, walk away, don't retaliate, otherwise you both enter into a pointless game of insults and innuendo's that you may think are clever, but its not really if you consider your opinion becomes worthless in other peoples views because of your insults, this works both ways.

  17. Posted by: liberty1 at 13:25 on 30 January 2012 Report

JJ, you willhave to ask IMO about posts being removed as strange things happen when he is about, there were about 6 posts removed at the same time and as you can read IMO admits that he removes my posts. Of course if you dont like our posts then dont read them, simple solution, dont you think?

  18. Posted by: liberty1 at 13:36 on 30 January 2012 Report

IMO, you are at your most creepy when you suck up to people, you remind me of the Dickens character Uriah Heep, if you dont know the character he is in the book David Copperfield.

  19. Posted by: JonJohn at 16:08 on 30 January 2012 Report

liberty1/IMO I think your as bad as each other, as are most of the comments between liberty1/a cahill. you all talk sense every now and then, but then kill it with insults and accusations of Tory boy this or Socialist that, even when there is nothing political being discussed, and if one or the other of you posts its a guarantee it will receive a derogative comment from the other, and yes your all guilty of doing just that.

  20. Posted by: JonJohn at 16:10 on 30 January 2012 Report

With that I will leave you to it to try to communicate without throwing insults and remind you all that personal insults are a breach of your terms and conditions. take care all.

Well said JonJohn, Its about time it stopped, go find another website to argue, we dont want it.

  22. Posted by: liberty1 at 20:16 on 31 January 2012 Report

JJ, I agree with your comments but I find it difficult to ignore pomposity and the distortion of facts relating to my comments.

I see, too often the outcome of things like this at work. Please look after your children (14 is still a baby in my eyes). If I ever have any kids there is no way they will be out after dark unless I know they are 100% safe and woe betide them if they lie about their whereabouts - It will be gruel and hard labour for a few months ;) - or grounding at least
