MEIFOD Football Club will see out the season despite the resignation of manager Geoff Whittall this week.

The long-serving clubman quit on Monday evening, after becoming frustrated with a lack of commitment which had seen the club unable to fullfil the Spar Mid Wales League Two fixture at Aberdyfi on Saturday.

However club secretary Paul Evans insisted the club are in the process of making an appointment and made assurances that the club would see out the season.

“On behalf of the club I’d like to thank Geoff for all his efforts,” said Evans. “The club has spoken to each player who has expressed their desire to compete at this level and we will be making an appointment in the next week.

“We have had a difficult 18 months or so and we have struggled to get the squad numbers up this season, which has meant that we have been unable to raise a side from time to time.

“However our lads are committed to the club and are backing whoever the club chooses to bring in. We will then review our options in the summer.

“Needless to say we would rather be in the Mid Wales League as Meifod Football Club wants to be able to continue to offer young lads from the area a chance to compete at the highest level possible.”

Whittall hopes the club will remain in the Mid Wales League but insisted the time had come for a change.

“I have been involved with the club since 1995 and have enjoyed my time, particularly taking the club up to the Mid Wales League on two occasions,” said Whittall.
