ABERGELE Rugby Club set themselves up perfectly for next week’s derby clash with Rhyl with a confident win over Newtown.

The Green Army made a winning start to 2012 with a confident 25-13 victory, moving up to seventh in the table with their fifth win of the season.

Abergele travel to fourth placed Rhyl this weekend for a 2.30pm kick off.

WITH the First XV out of action due to a waterlogged pitch at Machynlleth, Rhyl Rugby Club’s Seconds took the spotlight with an entertaining 20-7 win over Llandudno’s B squad.

Mike Potter's men led 3-0 at half time after an even first half, but ran in three excellent tries in the second to secure the win.

Rhyl’s pack, with the front row of John Richards, Callum Donaldson and the impressive Damion Jones, dominated thr---oughout, while Sam Shaw in the line out provided the Rhyls backs with ample possession.Fly-half Wes Hancocks controlled the game and after a try from centre Ash Owens, the lead was increased by a further score from man of the match Callum Morris.

The win was sealed by a superb length of the pitch try by wing Stu Fell Crook, with the Seconds away to Colwyn Bay this weekend.
