PARENTS AND campaigners have been left frustrated by the decision to continue with a school closure.
Conway Road Infants School, Colwyn Bay, is one of the schools reviewed by Conwy County Borough Council as part of its modernisation of schools programme.
Parents and members of the community came out in support of the school, which caters for children between two to seven.More than 630 people had signed the petition to save the school before Darren Millar, AM for Clwyd West, presented it to the council.
The school could be closed by the end of the summer term after a fall in pupil numbers.
At the start of the academic year in September 2011 the, school had 23 full-time pupils, but by November there were 18 full-time pupils.
Clair Davies, a parent who campaigned to keep the school open, said she had been left frustrated at the decision made by the council.
She said: “There’s nothing been looked at to see if we can go any other route. It seems like it doesn’t matter what we do.”
Darren Millar AM said: “I’m very disappointed by the decision - it’s clearly not what parents at the school want. But there are still many hurdles the council has to go through, and it’s quite likely there will be objections raised by people in Colwyn Bay - and I’ll be working with them to ensure that the voices of local people are heard by decision makers.”
