Train hits cow on Anglesey railway

A TRAIN struck a cow after it had wandered on to the track, causing problems for commuters.

Stunned passengers were delayed after the animal was hit by the Holyhead to Cardiff train at Gaerwen at around 8.20am yesterday (Monday, January 9).

A Net work Rail spokesman said: “We mobilised local staff to go to the scene and remove the cow and make any necessary repairs to enable the trains to run again.”

A spokesman for Arriva Train Wales spokesman conmfirmed that the 7.50 Holyhead to Cardiff was cancelled, along with part cancellations to five other services.

“The Cardiff bound side of the line was blocked. We had possesion of the line two hours after.

The train had to go back to the depot for inspection,” he said.
No passenger or railway staff were injured.
