TWO men are being questioned over a series of break-ins that took place across North Wales.

Police said they made a "significant" breakthrough in their investigation following a spate of burglaries in properties along the A55 corridor, including in Abergele and Rhyl.

A joint operation took place between a number of Welsh police forces and West Mercia Police, resulting in the arrest of two men in Northampton announced today (Friday).

Both have both been charged with conspiracy to commit burglaries in the Dyfed Powys Police area and have been remanded in custody.

The pair are also being questioned in connection with offences in North Wales and other force areas.

More than 25 unoccupied houses were targeted in the raids, which saw jewellery and cash stolen.

Detective Inspector Alun Oldfield said: “We have worked closely with Dyfed Powys on this investigation and are liaising with CPS in that area so that our evidence can be presented to them for further charges to be considered. Ongoing forensic examinations are taking place.”

“I would also like to reassure the public that since these two men were arrested on December 16 no similar offences have been committed in the region."
