NORTH Wales Police are warning motorists not to venture out on the roads unless their journeys are absolutely necessary.

The warning is being made as more adverse weather is expected over the few hours from the west of the force through to the east.

A jacknifed lorry caused rush-hour chaos this morning (Friday) as icy weather gripped on the region.

Traffic on the A55’s eastbound carriageway at Rhuallt Hill ground to a halt before 8am as the truck blocked the busy dual carriageway.

Hundreds of motorists  were caught up in a four-mile queue of traffic on North Wales’ main throroughfare.

The A55 eastbound at Rhuallt Hill has now re-opened and traffic is now moving slowly between Junction 26 and 29.

Local highways departments have been informed.

Superintendent Andy Jenks-Gilbert said: “To date, staffing levels within the force have not been affected and we continue to work with our partners in the emergency services to ensure that services are not affected.”
