LLANDUDNO Hockey Club ended 2011 on a high after beating Deeside Ramblers 4-1, moving to within a point of fourth placed Colwyn Bay.

The home side made a blistering start, and could have been well ahead before Tom Simpson opened the scoring fifteen minutes in from a short corner.

Deeside converted a short corner of their own to go into the break at 1-1.

A superb counter attack saw Llandudno regain the lead when Simpson’s 40 yard aerial found Lewis Sanford down the line, who beat the last defender and squared to Martin Williams for a smart low finish.

Llandudno had skipper Dave Whitfield sin-binned and the visitors pressed for an equaliser, but another lighting counter saw Mikey Pennington storm past half the defence and the ‘keeper to score.

Minutes later it was 4-1 when Steve Sharp held the ball up well and played through Simpson, who with just the ‘keeper to beat, squared the ball to Sanford to tap into an empty net.

The defence of Matt Roddy, Simon Otto and Jonathon Davies easily saw off any late challenges to keep all three points safe until the final whistle.

In-form Llandudno have taken 19 points out of the last 21 available and will hope to carry this on after their five-week break when they travel to City Of Manchester on January 14.

Colwyn Bay Firsts also had a successful weekend, making it three games unbeaten with a 3-0 win over Brooklands.

The Seconds were held 3-3 at Bebington, whilst the Thirds were edged out 3-2 by Chester.

The Ladies first team drew 4-4 with Pwllheli.
