A CARE worker knew she was guilty of bigamy when she married her second husband, a court has heard.

Susan Louise Jarvis, of Heol Bathafarn, Coedpoeth pleaded guilty at Wrexham Magistrates’ Court to marrying Darren Jarvis at the Llwyn Onn Hall Hotel on September 30, 2006, while still married to Nigel Woods.

Matthew Ellis, prosecuting, said Jarvis, 37, knew she was married but still went though with her second marriage to Darren Jarvis after three years together.
He said Darren Jarvis did not know she was still married.

A statement from Mr Jarvis said he and Susan Jarvis, a care home worker with an 18-year-old daughter, had split up in August.

He was aware she was previously married to Nigel Woods, a motor mechanic from Rhosddu.

She had told him their relationship hadn’t worked out and he had moved to Manchester.

When Mr Jarvis asked her to marry him in 2005 she told him her divorce to Mr Woods had not finalised, but when they came to book venues for their wedding, she said it was “all sorted”.

Tony Newns, defending, said while Susan Jarvis pleaded guilty, she did not accept that Darren Jarvis did not know she was still married when they went through with their wedding.

When they decided to marry she started divorce proceedings with Nigel Woods.

Both of them wanted to divorce and she got hold of papers, but at the time was unemployed and could not afford legal costs.

She had no money from Mr Woods to help and with the proposed wedding day to Mr Jarvis getting closer and closer, she “just went through with it”.

“She knows she made a mistake and can’t take it back,” said Mr Newns, but talked with Mr Jarvis about it all the while, discussing the need to sort her divorce out with him even after the wedding.

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report, to be heard on January 6. Unconditional bail was granted.
