A SECOND half goal spree saw off the challenge of Welsh League Goytre and landed the Seasiders a very winnable fourth round home tie with Cefn Druids.
Carl Murray could have had Town in front almost from the kick off when his angled shot came back off the post but it was the visitors who took the lead when Richie Ryan headed home at the back post after 26 minutes.
The Valleys side’s joy was shortlived though as six minutes later Ross Stephens powered a left foot shot past keeper Wyn Walters to level proceedings.
Prestatyn ended the half much the stronger with Jon Fisher Cooke having the best chance, springing the Goytre offside trap only to be denied by a brave save from Walters who raced off his line to gather at the striker’s feet.
Town keeper Jon Hill Dunt was rarely troubled but he did have to react quickly to deny the lively Liam McGinley.
As the second half wore on, Goytre’s resistance was gradually worn down and when Neil Gibson produced a rare headed goal from Stephens’ cross on 73 minutes it looked like game over.
It certainly was sixty seconds later when Carl Murray made it three and the trapdoor slammed firmly shut behind the South Walians when Stephens produced a superb chipped goal for number four with ten minutes left to play.
Ryan reduced the arrears from the penalty spot as the goals came thick and fast but Town’s response was swift as Michael Parker immediately made it 5-2 and then grabbed another in added time to complete a comfortable afternoon’s work for Neil Gibson’s side.
This Sunday Town return to Welsh Premier League action with a tough trip to leaders Llanelli (2.30pm).
Prestatyn Reserves’ midweek game with Holywell was called off due to a waterlogged Bastion Gardens pitch but they are due to face Llandudno in the Premier Cup at home on Friday, kick off 7.30pm.
Striker Ian Griffiths has left Bastion Gardens to join Welsh Alliance Denbigh Town.
Griffiths made 57 Welsh Premier appearances for Town, netting 19 goals including their first ever in the top flight against Airbus in August 2008.
Griffiths made an immediate impact for his new club netting both goals in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Llanrwst United.
