A vehicle which has thrilled scores of children over the last twenty years has been given a new lease of life.
Prestatyn Rotary Club’s festive float has gone on to become a familiar attraction on the area’s roads in the run up to Christmas.
It has now been given an overhaul make more use of it throughout the year and keep it looking good for the next twenty years.
Prestatyn Rotary Club honorary secretary Peter Dop in his application for funding to Prestatyn Town Council said the float had “served well for many years” but the time had come to renovate it.
“We are taking the opportunity not only to renovate the flaot but also to make it suitable for use throughout the summer,” he said.
“Unfortunately the funds we set aside for this purpose are rapidly becoming depleted and we are therefore requesting £1,000 to enable us to complete the work promptly and enable us to use the float to generate funds to support the local community.”
Prestatyn Rotary Club, founded in 1927, is an organisation of professional businesspeople and community leaders working for the benefit of the local community.
It’s Christmas Float is the group’s main fund-raising activity which last year alone helped raise £3963 which was distributed between charities and good causes including St Kentigern’s Hospice, Prestatyn Football Club, RNLI and Hope House Hospice. The float made its debut in 1990 but due to problems storing it and 21 years of wear was looking in a poor state.
