PARENTS have rallied round to fight the potential closure of a primary school.
Conway Road Infants in Colwyn Bay is one of the schools that has come under review by Conwy County Borough Council as part of its modernisation of schools programme.
Many parents and members of the community have come out to voice their support of the school, which caters for children between two to seven.
They fearing the possibility that it could be closed by July next year due to a fall in the number of pupils.
More than 500 people signed a petition to protect the school from closure which was presented to Darren Millar, AM for Clwyd West.
Clair Davies, a parent who presented the petition to Mr Millar, said closing the school would be "choosing quantity over quality".
She added that despite living in Old Colwyn, she trusted the quality of the school enough to take her young child to the Conway Road school which is located at the other end of the Bay .
Darren Millar AM said: "The scale of the opposition from residents in Colwyn Bay to the potential closure of Conway Road Infant School comes as no surprise to me.
"It is vital that the voices of parents and residents are listened to by decision makers at the council and the size of this petition clearly demonstrates the strength of local feeling.”
A spokeswoman for Conwy County Borough Council said the closing date for the schools consultation ends on November 30 and a report on the outcome of the consultation will be submitted to a Cabinet meeting on December 20.
