A NEW timetable on a consultation period for primary schools across Conwy has been approved.

In a report presented to Conwy Cabinet members last week, Geraint James, head of education services, explained the reasons for continuing with consultation into the future of primary schools in some areas as well as placing areas in the correct consultation phase and the financial commitment required.

Cabinet Members approved a list of areas for the first phase of the process, scheduled for 2011-2013, but said the process should be reviewed again before allocation schools to phase two.

Cllr Wyn Jones said: “The decision to carry out this pause and review was timely because the Welsh Government has asked all Local Authorities to review and resubmit their Strategic Outline Programmes by November 18.

“It has given us the chance to make sure we are focusing on the right issues and working towards achievable results.”

The Cabinet also endorsed a Strategic Outline Programme, which will be submitted to the Welsh Government.
