A LLANDUDNO schoolboy will be putting his fundraising efforts into top gear when he takes part in a racetrack triathlon.
Charley Simpson, 6, who goes to Ysgol San Sior is busy training for an arduous challenge at Dunsfold Park track in Surrey - made famous by BBC's Top Gear - which will see him racing one lap on foot, one lap by bicycle, and a third lap in his 50cc go-kart within an hour.
This will not be the first fundraising event for Charley, who raised more than £1,300 for charity by cycling 11.5 miles last year.
Dad Paul said Charley has been kart racing this year and wanted to do something for Children in Need again this year.
Paul called a number of high-profile race tracks to try and secure some racing time after deciding to try and go-kart for charity.
"A friend came up with the idea of a triathlon then we thought about a triathlon on the Top Gear track to make it more of a challenge. Running, walking and cycling.
"It's 1.75 miles. The go-kart should take about three minutes to get around it .
“The Stig can do it in about 59 seconds."
Charley has been training for the event with his dad and mum Rachel, and hopes to raise as much money as possible.
Paul said: "We have been practising. We've measured the distance on the promenade in Llandudno and from the St George's Hotel to the paddling pool and back is one lap, so we've been down there most days. We know times are hard for people this year, but hopefully he'll get as much sponsorship as possible. It's all for a good cause."
