THIS weekend thousands of people will pay their respects to fallen serviceman on Remembrance Sunday but for one Caernarfon woman it will be a particular day of pride.

Nicky Scott, 43, will join other members of a choir made up of Army wives, girlfriends and relatives, as they sing for the Queen at the annual Remembrance Day concert in London’s Albert Hall.

Nicky and the choir were brought together for the hit BBC show, The Choir, which sees choirmaster Gareth Malone transform a group of singers into a fine tuned musical outfit.

Nicky, who lives in the Royal Marines Base Chivenor in Devon, is originally from Caernarfon but left her job at the town’s Boots store to join the Army.

It was when she was serving abroad at a base in Germany that she met her husband George, who is a Royal Engineer.

Nicky has since left the army after more than 11 years service but her husband, who has served three tours of Afghanistan, is still in active duty.

“It gets quite heavy going when George goes away,” she said. “You can get quite down but when we were in rehearsals we had to concentrate one hundred percent.

“The choir is a complete release of stress.

“It has brought people together so much.

“It has changed our lives.”

The choir has performed at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, and on Plymouth Hoe for Armed Forces day, but Nicky said the challenge of singing before the Queen was the biggest of them all.

“We’re very very nervous but obviously excited,” she said. “The fact that we are getting this opportunity to commemorate all the lost soldiers is just such an honour for a military wife.”

Nicky also said the choir plans to continue singing together after the show.

“Gareth is an inspiration. Singing is his life and it is a joy to listen to him.”
The next episode of The Choir will be shown on Monday at 9pm on BBC2.
