A DARING pensioner confronted an intruder in his home who then fled through the bathroom window and down the drainpipe.
David John Davies came face-to-face with the man on the landing of his home on Epworth Close, Moss, and has spoken of his frightening ordeal.
He launched a torrent of abuse at the would-be burglar who then fled through the window.
Mr Davies, 65, was left shaken but unhurt following the incident on Monday.
He told the Leader: “I thought I was dreaming at first when I saw this man standing there.
“I think he was as frightened of me as I was of him.
“You just don’t expect this kind of thing in your own home.”
Retired joiner Mr Davies, who is housebound and suffers with arthritis and severe asthma, was taking a nap when the intruder struck at around 6pm.
His wife Susan, 64, was watching television downstairs.
“I wasn’t feeling too well so I went for a lie down,” he said.
“Then I heard a creaking on the landing and someone walked past my bedroom.
“I knew it wasn’t Susan so I went to investigate and there was this lad.
“I shouted at him ‘go on, get out of here’ and he shot out of the bathroom window, down the drainpipe and out of the back gate.
“He looked scared to death.”
Mr Davies says the intruder, who was in his 20s and was wearing dark clothing and a black hat, forced his way through a window in the spare bedroom.
“We had a good look but nothing has been taken, but that is not the point really.
“I still don’t know what to make of it. It has shook me up.”
Mr Davies is now calling for tightened security on his council-owned home.
A spokesman for Wrexham Council said: "Police have taken statements from the couple and fingerprints from the scene."
A spokesman for North Wales Police confirmed they had reports of an attempted burglary at the property and are investigating.
