A WOMAN whose beloved pet cat was killed by a speeding car on the road outside her house fears the next fatality could be a child.
Maxine Vaughan says over the past few years a procession of animals has been injured or killed on Park Wall Road in Bradley, Wrexham, because of drivers using it like as “race track”.
On Saturday evening her one-year-old male Bengal cat, Dizzee, came running into the house so badly injured after being hit on the road that he eventually had to be put down.
“He didn’t really go out much but on Saturday he came running into the house screaming and bleeding from his back end,” she said. “His leg was also badly mangled and he’s obviously been hit by a car.
“We took him to the vet but had to make the awful decision to have him put to sleep due to internal bleeding.
“He cost us £250 to buy a year ago and the vet’s bill is £220 but it’s not the money, it’s the upset it causes.
“This is our second cat that has been hit and left for dead along with numerous neighbours that have had their animals killed on this road.
“About 18 months ago we had a Siamese cut run over and injured and we’ve also had a dog hurt. One neighbour had a dog killed four years ago and another has had two Siamese cats die on the road.
“It’s like a pets’ graveyard but the most worrying thing is that next time it could be a child who is killed.
“The speed limit along this road is 30mph but these idiots come speeding round the corner and up the hill as though it was a race track.
“Something needs to be done about this before it is too late.”
Gwersyllt county councillor David Griffiths said: “There is more traffic using this road as a shortcut between Llay New Road and Mold Road and I am asking council officers to monitor the situation. We need is a common sense solution.
“I sympathise with people in that area because you do get speeding traffic on the part of the road near where this lady lives.
“In the past I have asked police cars to park up there but it’s an open area and drivers can see them from quiet a way off and slow down.”
A North Wales Police spokesman said there was not a particular problem with speeding on Park Wall Road.
