‘Next time it could be a child’

A WOMAN whose beloved pet cat was killed by a speeding car on the road outside her house fears the next fatality could be a child.

Maxine Vaughan says over the past few years a procession of animals has been injured or killed on Park Wall Road in Bradley, Wrexham, because of drivers using it like as “race track”.

On Saturday evening her one-year-old male Bengal cat, Dizzee, came running into the house so badly injured after being hit on the road that he eventually had to be put down.

“He didn’t really go out much but on Saturday he came running into the house screaming and bleeding from his back end,” she said. “His leg was also badly mangled and he’s obviously been hit by a car.

“We took him to the vet but had to make the awful decision to have him put to sleep due to internal bleeding.

“He cost us £250 to buy a year ago and the vet’s bill is £220 but it’s not the money, it’s the upset it causes.

“This is our second cat that has been hit and left for dead along with numerous neighbours that have had their animals killed on this road.

“About 18 months ago we had a Siamese cut run over and injured and we’ve also had a dog hurt. One neighbour had a dog killed four years ago and another has had two Siamese cats die on the road.

“It’s like a pets’ graveyard but the most worrying thing is that next time it could be a child who is killed.

“The speed limit along this road is 30mph but these idiots come speeding round the corner and up the hill as though it was a race track.

“Something needs to be done about this before it is too late.”

Gwersyllt county councillor David Griffiths said: “There is more traffic using this road as a shortcut between Llay New Road and Mold Road and I am asking council officers to monitor the situation. We need is a common sense solution.

“I sympathise with people in that area because you do get speeding traffic on the part of the road near where this lady lives.

“In the past I have asked police cars to park up there but it’s an open area and drivers can see them from quiet a way off and slow down.”

A North Wales Police spokesman said there was not a particular problem with speeding on Park Wall Road.

so her pet cat runs out into the road in front of a car that no one seen and the car was speeding?come on..cats have no road sense so the will run out in front of vehicles..it could of been a 40 ton truck then tiddles would be flat

Residents say its a race track. NWP says it isn't. Nothing new there then. The establishment playing down speeding in communities. Get a speed survey and allow residents to see data. This isn't allowed in Flintshire, data is kept secret. Meanwhile the idiots are allowed to race around with no down side until they kill someone. Stable door policies ---- copyright NWP.

About time something was said about the "Park wall raceway" I have wittnessed the speeds well in excess of the limit on here.... and its not just boy racers, taxi's council vehicles etc... they seem to think its ok, i feel sorry for people who live there, and its only a matter of time before something serious happens... I'm with the residents on this, they have been trying to get it sorted for years.no doubt all the sado's on here will be having there pathetic dig... till it happens to them.

@Oh Dear, what an insensitive obnoxious muppet you must be! Regardless of whether a cat knows the green cross code, i'm sure it just didn't sit there waiting to be hit! I hope karma gets you goodstyle for your comments. I too have witnessed many drivers speeding in that area, and surrounding areas such as Gwersyllt, Llay and Rhosrobin, and until a human life is taken, NWP will do didly squat about it!

What a nonstory complete waste of time. How sure is anyone that the vehicle involved was speeding? How can anyone say a car is speeding? It is a fact that perceived speed is much greater than actual or do you all carry radar guns around with you? I hit a cat there once and I was doing 20, what next bring the limit down to 10?

Cont. How has this paper ever won an award for publishing headlines that compare a cat to a human? If a child with the road sense of a cat got hit then the parents should be brought to book. What a cat-piss read.......

I have seen two cats get flattened in my time. The first was on the High Street in Coedpoeth - The car wasn't speeding, the cat walked across, saw the car, froze in place, and got crushed. So yes, cats *do* just "sit there". Second time was a neighbours cat under their owners car when they started reversin; it, didn't even try to run, just backed up to the wheel and got flattened.

Any proof it was a speeding car???, no,so why the startling headline?animals dont have road sense unfortunately, very sad. All it does is give PD a reason to rant about how much worse it is outside his house(contrary to council proof apparently). Still, lets not get the truth in the way of a good anti car rant.

Speeding and Tailgating is the new sport in the UK, especially in the 30 limits which they cry are 'Unnecessarily Slow'.Virtually everyone exceeds the limit and then tell us the speedos are 10% under anyway so its ok.They forget that 45 in the 30 is a bit more than 10% though they still exceed that. They will scoff at your comments and use every excuse in the book to make you look stupid and them great - until they do hit a child, maybe kill a child - only then are they no longer cocky.

lindopski - what on earth has your comment got to do with the story of a cat being run over or are you a retard that believes that a cat has the same road sense as a human?

  12. Posted by: lillady10 at 20:27 on 14 October 2011 Report

i think people are missing the point of the article...the article is to highlight the fact of drivers using this road at speed not the issue of cats/dogs etc of having no road sense...residents would like measures to be taken BEFORE a child does get run over and by the way does a child have any road sense when they run after a ball onto a road...the answer is certainly no!! i don't think people leaving comments should call others retards either...very unjust!!

dont you mean alledgedly speeding?as nwp dont seem to think there is a problem with speeding,..just a question..has any child or adult been injured on this particular road?

  15. Posted by: lillady10 at 22:22 on 14 October 2011 Report

Would it take an injury of a child or adult to make nwp do something about this? Local Councillors know this is a bad road for speeding cars;the article is to highlight how bad this road is for cars going over the 30 limit in the hope that something will get done BEFORE a child or adult gets hit!

Lets face it NWP as a police force couldn't catch a cold if it wasn't for CCTV...which incidentally is not recording at all times....eg if there are twenty camera#s in Wrexham then the optimum time for recording for each one is 3mins per hour and instead of policing we get exactly 72 mins of recorded rubbish every twenty four hours

  17. Posted by: a cahill at 01:13 on 15 October 2011 Report

Furthermore to the jerk who claimed to be a police officer at Kingsley Circle tonight...your words were "Don't point at me I'm an Officer" as you moved agressively toward me...Why ? you were upset because I pointed at you and told you it was a fix...since when did expressing oneself become a crimina offence...would Sgt Jacks like to comment or maybe Insp Goss would take the time to explain that as you were not in uniform failed to show I.D you were actually the one in breach of the peace

how do you know they are going over 30mph,have you got special speed sensing powers?
